Looking at the vehicles on the road, it is obvious
that: bicycles came from roller skates, motorbikes came from bicycles,
Reliant Robins came from motorbikes, Minis came from Reliants, saloon
cars from Minis, all the way up to Mercedes, Rolls Royces and big
lorries. Of course, this splendid cavalcade of evolution must be
expected to continue, with who knows what future forms developing. And
it all began with iron filings………
This argument appears to make sense, doesn't it? But it does not really
fit the true facts, which are that all these vehicles are human
artefacts with years of design and development behind them. Any
relationships are in the minds of the developers, not in the actual
physical forms of the machines themselves.
The same argument could be used for many other things, e.g. the
"evolution" of the microchip. However, once again the relationship is
mental or spiritual rather than physical, as these machines are also
the products of intelligent design - even if they are designed by
computers, the computers themselves are designed by humans!
Ultimately, the way we are conditioned to think, either by our
upbringing, education or what we like to call "thinking for ourselves",
affects the way we see the universe around us, so much so that it is
impossible to be truly independent. But let's give it a try.
